My "27 dresses" dreams came true
This past weekend, I had the HONOR of being my best friend's MAID OF HONOR at her Mexico City wedding. It was hectic, beautifully chaotic, and so much fun...and I think I was born to do this job.
In March of this year, I co-hosted a glamorous bachelorette party in the US Virgin Islands. Between champagne toasts, the girlies and I kept talking about how the wedding felt *so far* away. We were wrong though, because it feels like this spring flew by and we were hit in the face like a truck with this wedding weekend that just happened…and it was glorious.
This was my first time being a bridesmaid — made extra special that I got to experience it with my little sister. Back in the days before the numerous streaming services we have today, we owned a few DVD’s. Our collection included High School Musical, Mamma Mia, 50 First Dates, and 27 Dresses. We watched these movies on repeat…and I 10000% resonated with Jane, the main character / low key bridesmaid-for-hire, protagonist.
I spent a lot of the weekend on the phone with the wedding planner, running around with my laptop in hand, and fluffing Avery’s wedding dress. And although sweat dripped down my forehead and I had shallow breaths from the adrenaline (anxiety?) — I was thriving. Henry kept laughing at me and saying, “you’re enjoying this aren’t you.” Yes, boyfriend…I am. Here’s why I was made for this job:
I’m the OLDEST DAUGHTER of a single mother household. Bossing people around and being a girl’s girl to get a job done? That’s in my DNA.
I’m the type-A girly who loves color-coded itineraries and spreadsheets. My google docs that held details of bridesmaids contact info and to-do lists were joyful gems in and of themselves.
Acts of services if my love language. I don’t have a big social group, but I have a few really close friends that I would do anything for — Henry and Avery are absolutely my non-blood related chosen family that top that list. It made my heart feel so warm being able to show my love for Avery via maid-of-honor duties.
